Johannesburg - Police arrested two Wits University students on Tuesday morning, including student leader Busiswe Seabe.

The two were taken into custody for allegedly contravening a court order obtained by the institution against students. The interdict stops large gatherings and singing on the campus.

Stun grenades were fired by police to disperse students outside the Great Hall earlier on Tuesday.

"We've only taken in two students from this morning's illegal gathering," said police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela.

He told News24 police would stay on campus throughout the day to monitor the situation. Public order policing units from both JMPD and SAPS have been deployed to the institution's campuses.

"We have deployed members but if needs be will call on more," said Makhubela.

Fees Must Fall leader Seabe claimed she was arrested for just asking questions but Makhubela dismissed this as just an allegation, stating that she would have to prove this when she appears in court.

The varsity's main campus has since calmed down with students milling about while others make their way to classes.

The #wits hashtag on twitter shows how much stupid abounds.

Students are crying about being dispersed by the police - saying they're being peaceful. Of course, they're not being peaceful and even if they were, they're in violation of a court order

bunch of ****ing retards.

It's a start. More arrests need to follow now. Protest peacefully or get stomped on like the roaches you are.

They've been running around disrupting lectures and shutting off access to the campus again. They're definitely not peaceful.

Please Sinbad..

Some sensitivity towards the genuine retards out there. They are smarter than this current bunch of rioters.

What difference does it make. NPA will decline to prosecute and they will be out in a few hours.
The Govt is petrified of these students. Surprised they haven't replace rubber bullets with Nerf guns.

Hey lady lecturer.......you are the reason this country is in %$^.
Voetsek to some hipster commune in Oregon or something, and let those who have a clue sort out this mess.
You are not a teacher, you are a sheep. Whiny little biatch without a clue.

"social sciences"...say no more.

That's a "woman's studies" major if ever I saw one.

Her comments really are daft though.

She cannot understand why "students are being treated like criminals on their campus". Well, my dear, this may come as a shock to you, but:
1) Like other citizens in SA, students can be arrested if suspected of having ties to crimes that have been committed. Furthermore a campus is not their safe space.
2) Your students' rights to protest do not supersede ANY other right as guaranteed by our Constitution. The current strike action, in the way it is being carried out, is infringing upon those rights.

Before 8am this morning News24 uploaded an uncut version of the stun grenade incident on their live feed, but was quickly deleted and replaced. They cut off the few seconds before the grenades were released, where one of the riot leaders cajoled other students to repeat a Marikana-styled charge at the police.

News 24 have deliberately censured this vital footage which will lead viewers to a different understanding of what really happened.

The woman arrested in the police van allegedly attempted to release another student protester who had been arrested by trying to unlock the police van in which he was detained. She was allegedly arrested for attempting the release him and disobeying orders of the police. Again News24 deliberately hid this fact and turned the story around to make her look like a victim.

The sobbing white social science liberal (Kelly Gillespie) sickens me. She obviously sees nothing wrong with the criminality exhibited by these slugs on campus for the past three weeks. The cops are there to bring back law and order. Her libtard social experiment has backfired, and now she's upset.

She talks about freedom to demonstrate and to be heard bla bla bla, but conveniently ignores the rights of the majority who want to study in peace.

Sob sob .... cry me a river.

Its very clear to me that News24 have pinned their flag to the mast of the FeesMustFall campaign and propping up their propaganda campaign to incite more social unrest. Habib was on point, lambasting the media for their apparent involvement.

Shame on Media24!
