Hi there,

I bought a new house, but found two light switches in separate switch plates that do not switch on anything. When opening them up, both are wired up. When measuring across them, they both only read 150V and not 220V as expected.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Outside lights?

Do any rooms have little plastic circle covers on walls/ceilings where a light fitting was blocked off?

All the switches seem to switch insight lights, all the lights are working inside and outside. These 2 switches/wires are baffling me, they do have voltage on them, just 150V not 220V as expected, also cannot see them doing anything.....

Maybe stove and Oven?

Maybe something like a electric curtain, ceiling fan or floor heating? Where are the switches located?

Reminded me of a episode of Friends

Both switch plates are on opposite sides of a large lounge, about 100m^2. The switch are both single pole swiches, originally though the might be your typical hallway switches but not. The 150V is also puzzling.

Big windows/curtains? What about the ceiling some sort of bulkhead possible?

Climb in roof and trace them.

I don't see how anyone on the internet would give you magical answer to something they've seen even less of.

How are you measuring across the switches? Your supply is 240V so Live to Neutral giving 150V doesn't make any sense. And no one in their right mind would go installing transformers to run 150V lights that they could not easily replace if blown.

How do you measure the volt 150, between where and where and with what. Please post a pic of the wiring and the switch.

Good point. You don't normally get a neutral in a light switch. It would have to be measured to earth
