Tyre advice needed

Well you can't put 15" on 14" wheels so those listed will not work. Will you be getting new rims / mags as well?

Yes, sorry should have specified... I am changing to 15" rims as well.

Just want to know about the difference between the brands...

Hi guys,

Any idea which is better from the below?

195/50/15 Dunlop SP Sport 700

185-65-15" Dunlop SP7000

195-60-15" Yokohama V550C

I currently have Dunlop S60 175/70R14 and they've been doing pretty well.

Thanks

Go for the 195/50/15 Dunlop SP700, I have them on my car, no issues, the others will look funny coming from 14 inches, the higher sidewalls just won't look right. Make sure you have the correct offset on the mags. Nothing wrong with the Yokohama as long as you can get the 15 inch. The 195/50/15 is the closest match to your 175/70/14.

Depending on what car he drives...

185/60R15 would be a better size match.

2003 Toyota Corolla.

I'm open to all opinions right now... Size and brand wise. Not limited to the ones I mentioned above. Although I would like to keep it <R700 a tyre.

I do about 80Kms a day for work.

Something else to bear in mind, is what is the width of the new rim? (the J number)

check the treadware rating, the higher it is, the better

That's pretty one-dimensional. Higher tread wear rating also generally means less grip, which is not always a good thing.

Not sure... I can find out though.

How do I verify that I am getting the correct rim width for the 185/60R15? Should it just match the tyre width (R15) ?

6J is ideal. 6.5J is maximum, 5J is minimum.

You bunch of plonkers. Off course you can put a 15" tire on a 14" rim. Heck you can put a 22" Tire on there. What you cannot do is put a 15" tire on a 16"-22" rim.

OP is not asking if putting a 15" tire on a 14" rim will work. OP is asking for opinions on 3 tyre options.
R15 is the sidewall height. Width is the 185.
Erm...No it is not. Is is the diameter of the hole. 185/60R15 refers to the sidewall aspect-ratio (vs the width (the 185 number)), or the height of the sidewall in your example.

no.
R15 is the rim diameter.
185 is the tread width, /60 is the sidewall height as a percentage of width.

Rim width is the J number of the rim itself, eg a 15" 6J rim.

Hahahah I should have specified the fact that I am changing the rim... But I do appreciate the advice given by the others as well.

Basically I wanted to know about opinions on Dunlop vs Yoko. People I've spoken to have been on both sides of the fence for this one.
