G'day MyBB,

I am in the market for 4 new tyres on my car. i currently have 215/45/17's on. Is there a calculator that can work out what other size (i would like a higher profile) i can fit ?? I want to start shopping around so long.

Cheers

/\ :D

most just give the change in revs, speedometer readings. I want a list of possible alternatives, if that is possible.

Same thing.
Basically, you SHOULD be able to go one profile step higher without having too much of an impact on your speed. I wouldn't go any more than that.
You could also try going to 225/45/17s

At the end of the day though you really don't want to increase your sidewall height as it will have too much influence on your rolling diameter.
Going to 16s probably wouldn't be an option either, 16" tyres are quite expensive.

I have the same size tyres and by the sounds of it you are looking for a more comfortable ride without downsizing your rims to 16 inches.

If you increase the profile to 215/50 17:
Rolling circumference increases by 3.4% which is acceptable
The side wall height increases by 10.75mm
Pros: Large increase in sidewall height which will help increase comfort substantially with the right tyre brand.
Cons: Not a common profile so it's expensive.

If you change the profile to 225/45 17:
Rolling circumference increases by 1.4% which is fine
The side wall height increases by 4.5mm
Pros: Common size so not that expensive.
Cons: Less effect on comfort due to small increase in sidewall height.
