Debating whether to go with michelin primacy 4 or save a few bucks and choose between pirelli p7 and something else. I bought the car with Radar tyres on which are (what i think is what is) sounding kak. And they're like 80% life

If you got the cash for Mich, then obviously buy them.

For the MKV and up, the Conti’s and Bridgestone’s do well.

Bridgestone Potenza RE002
Falken something or other
Pirelli P7

These are the 3 I used on my Mk6 GTI. Bridgestone was the best but aquaplaned badly.

Can't really have that sentence and not feel slightly contradictory, right?? What made them better, regardless of the fact that they aquaplaned??

They were better in all aspects except when driving through deeper pools of water. Wet and dry grip was excellent. Low noise level. Decent wear. Just aquaplaned a lot easier than others.

michlin pilot sport 4 ftw !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... dont bother with anything else

So basically they were dangerous and actually a crap tyre.

Goodyear Eagle f1 Asymmetric

Second this.

The Achilles also good on a budget, but can be hard to find.

Still...sounds like there is nothing wrong with the current tyres other than brand consciousness.

I'm running achilles 2233 on my touring. Not a bad tyre. Errols usually have them for a good price.

my polo came standard with dunlop SP sports i think, was super expensive to replace. went with michelin pilots. amazing, lasted long. right now im running the standard michelin pilot super sports. but the regular sports are more than adequate. though if you not down for the proper summer sport tire. the primacy or exalto's are amazing and affordable.

When shopping for tires, there are several items you can compare other than price. Even if you are not in the market for tires right now, the tires on your vehicle are graded based on treadwear, traction and temperature. It might be interesting for you to see what the ratings are on the tires you have now just for the sake of knowing.

It appears that the this information is usually reflected on inside of the tyre; that being the side that faces the away from the exterior of the car and not the inner of the actual tyre.

Best to do your own research. I find Errol's tyres to be of great help. Input your size and get a great option list. Then go to tyrereview.co.uk to check ratings from users.
Don't discard the Korean brands offhand. I sport Kumho's on all three my cars as i perceive them to be great value for money and they always get great reviews. Coming off Bridgestone Turanza ER300's i actually prefer the Kumho's in all aspects.
Falkens are Japanese made and are the equivalent of Bridgestones in the West. They are well known and respected in racing circles. And equal to any western made brand.

Kinda like Apple or Samsung. Pay for the name without any real life benefits.

Yokohama - Great tires, not as amazing in the dry as my michelins
Dunlop SP 7000D - worse tires i had in my life
Pirelli P Zero Nero - Great tires, but wears way too quickly
Dunlop SP Sports - Great tires, super expensive
Nankangs - Decent grip, horrible road noise
Michelin Exalto 2's - Used it to replace my Dunlops on my polo gti. Despite being much cheaper, was as good
Michelin Pilot supersports - better grip levels than Pirelli P zero Nero, but lasts 40% longer, better than the Dunlop SP Sports, better than the bridgestone I had
Bridgestone RE 710 - great tread pattern, discontinued
Falkens (for my dad's car) - very good tire, but not one I will get for myself.
Bridgestone RE 711 - great tire, expensive
Continental - currently on the SUV, cant really judge as I never push it, but quiet and comfy

So yeah. Im not thumb sucking here. bang for buck for a good summer tire, the michelins are great.
My criteria can however differ. For me its ultimate grip, road noise and tire life.

For my wife its general grip, wet weather grip, puncture resistance, comfort. Then again generally her car will have higher profiles, wont ever be pushed etc....
