Need to get some new tyres for the wife's car. Other than good wear, no real performance requirements since it's only a Toyota Yaris. Got prices from local shops and seems that Goodyear and Hankook are about the same price for the 175/65 R14. Any recommendations on the brand or doesn't it really matter in that price range?

Why Hankook?

Absolutely nothing wrong with GoodYear and would be my first choice.

If you've created a superior product, the last name you want to give it is "Hankook". WTF?

I've had Hankook tyres and they are fine IMO as I never had any issues with them.

Nothing wrong with hankook, even oem on some audis.
That said I would go with the Goodyear if they are similarly priced.

What size tyres are you looking at? Check errols tyres to get an idea on pricing as well.

edit. i see you mentioned the size

I like Hankook but they seem a bit weak for our roads all mine developed sidewall issues. They are low profiles though so maybe the 175/65 bigger sidewalls will be more forgiving.
I dont have experience with Goodyears though.

Neither. Continental all the way, I got 90,000km on 1 set.

Paid R1050 for 15", so 14" will prob cost around R800-R900

I found hancooks to be very soft, I destroyed 2 in a potholes. Replaced them with Bridgestones and had no issues since.

I tried Hankook once, grip was horrible, after two months I just got Pirelli's again. Threw the almost brand new Hankook's away.

Defiantly way to soft in my opinion.

Soft compounds have better grip .... #justsaying

Which hankook? Some are great, some aren't.

Consider Achilles 2233 as well if you're offered them.

No idea which ones it was, was two years ago, cost R1600 per tyre.
Yes, soft is supposed to equal more grip, but not with this Hankook gemors.

Edit: Going around a corner with them the whole car slid.
Pulling away it just spins.
Gearing down from 4th to 3rd and you spin...

So way to soft

Soft = more grip. So if anything, way too hard.

I had Hankook Ventus V12s on my 500Nm 230kw FWD car and they were pretty damned decent. Of course, the tyre that can handle that hasn't been made, but these did a good job of trying.

I need 195/55/ R16 - what can i expect to pay per tyre?

Have Hankook on our SUV. Way, waaaay better than the continentals I had on previously.

Yeah, but try putting those Hankooks on a powerful car, then you'll see how they struggle.
