U-turn in the highway

So I work PTA and stay in JHB and I see a lot of poeple doing U-turns on the N14. This morning I had to slam on the brakes because this guys driving a red Hyundai Getz U-turned in front of me on to the fast lane of the highway :twisted: Fortunately it was early in the morning and there wasn't much traffic, otherwise there was a danger that someone was going to drive into me from behind. I don't get it because the guy was maybe 100m from the Jean Ave offramp so he could have taken the off ramp then back onto the highway.

The other day, i was driving on the highway and this dude slows down on the fast lane to a point where he almost stops just because he wants to do a U-turn/stop on the right shoulder of the highway.

I see this sort of stuff a lot. In a week I would say I see a least 2-3 people do this. I don't get it. Who are these people and why do they do this. Is it because people do not see the danger in doing this, or they just don't see this as a big deal :confused:

I stay in Pta and travel daily on the N14 to the Sandton/Harties offramp. I also see this almost daily and the taxi's stopping on the side of the highway to pick up passengers. There are also a lot of labourers walking along the highway. I think the cops should travel this route more often and arrest these offenders.

Why is it that a good percentage of the population has to be policed before they can do the right thing? Some times a wrong is a wrong.
 
These people don't understand the dangers of doing that on a national road where average speeds are 100KPH+.
 
A similar thing was happening on Utsig Road in Centurion, people kapping U-turns to avoid sitting in the queue, until eventually they put up a barrier to stop this. I was thinking, how much money is spent every year just to control peoples ridiculous and dangerous behavior. I mean really, in their own capacity and in their own space most people will behave, but take them outside on the road or a public place and they just lose their minds..

I was on the N4 a few years ago and a dude decided to make a u-turn through the bushes into the fast lane. Doing 120 is still 120 too much if a car jumps onto the road from behind a bush.
 
Drove to work this morning from Jean Ave on the N14, saw someone making a u-ey as well. No brains there.

And yeah, they could drive 500m further and just take the damn offramp.
 
lol... yah people are crazy, this is why rules are made and extra stuff like barricades are added, I expect more off roading between highways and off ramps occurring when eTolls kicks in :p (and people with anything resembling 4x4 clearance do it to dodge traffic already)
 
The problem is also when they swing back on to the opposite side of the road (after their off road expedition) they tend to put a whole lot of gravel on the fast lane of the highway - which results in windscreens getting broken.

Let me tell you a bit about Retarded !!!

Some years back, I was with someone driving on the freeway from Constantia to the city.
Other person was driving - me in passenger seat (LHD vehicle).
Tow truck on other side of freeway traveling from city towards constantia decides to cross to our side of the freeway via a gap in the hedge dividing the freeway.
In front of us is a golf.
I suddenly see the golf hit breaks hard, and the tow truck cross the freeway - all lanes to get to the inside emergency lane on our side.
But we are not slowing down.
I get very edgy cause I am sitting on the right side of a left hand drive car (kinda where you would normally find pedals & steering wheel) but have no"instruments" at my disposal.
I take a quick glance at the driver - and notice to my horror - he is taking a nap !!!
I smack him in the face - we glide into the back of the golf.

we were travelling in a usa made "landship"

We all come to a standstill after propelling the golf down the freeway.
I run to the golf - no injuries at all - but the groceries that were in the "boot" are now on the drivers lap - and a mess !
Enraged, I dash across to the tow truck, who's driver is standing amazed whilst surveying the mayhem.
Without uttering a word I punch him in the face - he falls.
I go back to the car I was in - driver starts jabbering away. Smack - another punch in the face.

Ambulances etc come tearing up to the scene, paramedics immediately rush to the "injured" - those blood all over their faces and clothes.
Tow truck driver all brave now starts mouthing off at me. I start striding back towards him rather fast - he runs, screaming like a woman into the bushes on the side of the freeway.
I am "restrained" and given a comfortable place to sit - in the back of a police car !

They deserved what they got + tax .

That's rough. Honestly not sure if I'd want to punch the guy or go the extra mile and boot him when he's down as well.

Had a similar blonde driver today on the way back from a friend. Coming down the two lane road, clear on my side as in nothing in front, next to me, or behind me, robot is red so I slow a little to avoid having to come to a full stop. I time it well and get to sail through at around 40ish once green, but one guy in an off gold corolla decides that trying to cross in front of an oncoming car doing almost the city limit is a good idea. I flash him to point out the wtfness, he stops, I give a bit more gas, then he floors it and forces me to swerve out into the luckily empty lane next to me and then proceeds to hoot while throwing a zap. Ah these people in their mid 50's, such calm drivers!
 
I saw a big 18 wheeler do this on the same highway once, pity I couldn't get its details.

Its these country bumpkins that come from these backwaters where there are not enough people for things like this to matter. Then they come to the big city and apply the same rules for a country dirt path, to a major highway.

When I see EC, NC, NW, Limpopo plates I just expect the worse.
