Does anybody know how the lockdown curfew affects Uber?

This is what I get from their site;

Q: When can I operate during level 3 lockdown based on the updates made on 12 July?
You will be able to accept rider requests at any time of the day for permitted travel only. Riders who request a trip during the curfew will need to produce a permit in line with the regulations.

''Permitted travel only'' - I'm guessing that is in-line with curfew? So if a bar/restaurant closes at 22:00 along with curfew, you better have your Uber trip sorted before then?

You better be home by 10pm unless you have a permit allowing you to be out after 10pm..

The mode of transport is irrelevant to a curfew. If you're out past 22:00, you need a permit.

Not Uber but I was also curious about this the other night and I opened up the Bolt app after 11pm and saw there was still activity at that time.

It's not complicated. You need to be home (or wherever you're staying) by 22:00.

I'm pretty sure their drivers will need to have permits so they can transport other people who have permits...

That as well as the odd Uber/Bolt drive needing cash and doing business regardless.

I'd imagine late nights/early mornings is the busiest period for drivers, or very close to being the busiest.

Update on Friday night.

It is indeed possible to catch Uber rides after 22:00.

Who is even worried about any of these crackdown laws? It's a free for all, or as some would say "business as usual", isn't it?

My first Uber picked me up at around 6pm and he said pretty much this. He laughed when I asked about curfew. Lockdown killed them and so they are back to business now.

No one ever said it was not possible...

The lockdown regulations require that you have a permit to be out during curfew.. of course, it is a matter of whether you and your uber driver actually get stopped by the authorities, for this to be enforced..
