Uber app sucks

How safe is this Uber thing?
My daughter is out tonight and their designated driver has been drinking so the rest of the kids are using Uber to get home at 1AM. Makes me nervous.

EDIT: They have used it before, but much earlier at night and closer. Suppose I am just nervous cause it is so late and they are on the other side of JHB.

Used it at 4AM once or twice... Been using them for the last year now and I've used them quite a lot of times. Never had an issue. Had a crap driver once that weaved his way through peak hour traffic though

If you are awake, they could share their location with you, and then you would be able to watch their location on a live map.

In my experience, taxi drivers in SA are dodgy at the best of times, regardless what company they're with.

I have had nothing but STELLAR service from uberBlack drivers. I have always felt very safe, UNLIKE normal taxi cabs here which I find very dodgy.

Uber app is awesome, probably just cause you on a windows phone that its ***, no-one cares about developing good apps for windows.

Re- safety, I have never had a problem nor have any of my friends.

There was an incident or 2 in cape town regarding sketchy drivers but none in JHB. I would rather have my kids (in a group is much better) take uber than any other taxi company thats for sure.

-- Mike, if you in this situation again, a cool way of keeping track of them is if you order the uber for them on your phone (you can set the pickup pin to their location, just move it on the map). You can then track the drivers every move from pickup to drop off.

If the kids are out jolling and I'm anywhere near (as in within an hour's drive), I'd just get in the car and fetch them myself. Why rely on someone else who you don't know to do it for you?

Used the app last night. Car was outside my driveway 3 minutes after I ordered it.

And it didn't even cost anything - I had credit from introducing people.

I know I didn't quote him, but I was actually addressing Mike, who was concerned for his daughter's safety. Whether that is a result of paranoia or justified isn't actually the point.

Having said that, it's nice that you're not paranoid. Of course that's no guarantee that they're not out to get you.
