I booked an Uber on 09 Feb 2026. The ride was approximately 4 - 6km away from my home to work. The cost was 114.
As an UberOne user I'm supposed to get promotions on rides, etc., but it seems this is a useless service subscription too.
I feel that such a charge is absolutely absurd for such a short distance!
Every other day they didn't charge me above R50 for this trip.

I'm on the verge of cancelling my subscription and uninstalling this app.

I even reached out to customer support to escalate the situation, but only received useless responses as usual.

WE ARE BEING ROBBED!
I'VE HAD ENOUGH!

Well, it is very clear from your costs breakdown that you are getting a promotional discount as well as uberone Credit that's deducted from your cost too..

Seems everything is working as expected..

Costs are calculated based on peak periods and demand.. seems you were just unlucky and booked during a high demand period..

Extremely discouraging.
Even during peak, asking R114.00 for 4km is propostrous. This needs to be reviewed really.

What is your billing per km during peak?

Supply and demand, this is basic economics.. if there is one driver available and 15 people booking a ride, that's going to push up the price, irrespective of the distance..

If you don't like it, go download InDrive, where you and the driver agree upon a price before you get your ride..

You pay for convenience, not fuel cost.

What you've been through is a lot. Why not join my cult for the oppressed people of the world? We’re having a potluck this weekend, but I'm starting to think that organising a potluck was not the best idea for a group of people who repeatedly suffer misfortune.

Fr?
"Cult of the oppressed" haha. Sounds interesting. How do I get more info on this?

It's a great idea if you have an Uber gift card as a prize...

So how do you plan to get to work?

No one is forcing you…if the price isn’t right then don’t use the service.

Think about it, a car would have cost you R100 a day even if you didn’t use it.

Drive with my car 🚶‍♂️

If the message wasn't directed to you, then why do you feel the need to reply?

As a member of this forum it was directed at me.

If you didn’t want replies, don’t whine like a little bitch with entitlement syndrome.

I paid R220 on Friday afternoon for 7km…you don’t see me crying. I saw the fees up front and I accepted the cost,
I can’t go complain about it afterwards now.

Uber One has always been a scam, they even got taken to court:

Reddit is full of threads where people price Uber One at the same time of day for the exact same trip and receive better pricing without the subscription, try it yourself next time with a colleague, friend, family or whatever standing right next to you pricing the same trip at the same time

they also scam companies who use Uber for Business, when I travel for work I can charge trips to the company account, without fail the same trip at the same time is more expensive on the company account than when I switch to my personal account and it is not a small difference either
