Cape Town - An Uber taxi driver was killed in Summer Greens near Century City on Saturday when he refused to hand over his belongings to robbers.
Police say after killing the 35-year-old driver, the robbers made off in his vehicle.

According to Reagan Croeser, chairperson of the Summer Greens Neighbourhood Watch (SGNHW), the driver stopped at a shop on the corners of Summer Greens Way and Ploughman’s Crescent to buy airtime.

“He was sitting in his car and loading the airtime. He was driving a white VW Polo. They tried to rob him and shot him in the abdomen,” explains Croeser.

Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says about 8:40pm Milnerton police were called to Summer Greens.

Sounds like what tragically passes for common crime in SA, nothing specifically related to the fact that he was an Uber driver.

That's exactly what they say about farm murders...

Yeah, but as far as I'm aware there isn't a strong pattern of specifically Uber drivers being murdered in armed robberies. Harassment and attacks specifically because they are Uber drivers, sure, but no constant almost weekly/daily pattern of killings during "armed robberies" on Uber drivers any more than any other kind of driver as far as I can glean.

But mentioning "uber" in the headline increases clicks.

When a hijack victim gets shot and killed, or when mall gets robbed and the owners shot, nobody bats an eyelid. But when one little Potato is going to get eaten then everybody loses their minds!
