Uber implements mandatory breaks for UK drivers

does the app tel them when they can work? thought they login when they can. and then uber uses that that.

This is going to be problematic if this comes to SA. Most of the drivers are from African countries and they work insane hours, as they only take home a small percentage of what they make. The owners of these cars are basically slaving them. I've chatted to several drivers who work pretty up to 16 hours a day.

Yes...

And they work those hours because they cannot afford a car to start with. So someone else funds the car. Driver pays over the monthly car costs plus profit share to person financing the vehicle, leaving them with little unless they work really long hours

No matter what, if you are involved in transporting people or goods for that matter, working more than 10 hours without break should not be allowed.
