Just read this article and it made me think.

https://businesstech.co.za/news/mot...-south-africa-and-the-results-are-surprising/

My car is due for service this month so I looked at the milage of my last service and current milage.

I do less then 500km a month and I probably can do less even as for grocery shopping and other basics I can literally just walk.

So I really am considering this (There is still an other car in the household)

This doesn't show surge pricing. Or the annoyance when they keep cancelling a ride. Nor the inconvenience when you need to do a trip that is out of the ordinary.

Surge pricing not really an issue for me as I am not driving in peak times. Cancelled rides can be a pain. Trip out of the ordinary in those cases I can use the other car.

But yes it is things to consider.

Unless you are really struggling financially, keep the car.

With the price trends of cars these days, if you sell it now and suddenly need one in 5 years from now then you will spend a small fortune to get back in one.

This.

I'm in the same scenario.
My wife currently isn't working and I work from home 99% of the time. Schools and shops walkable distance.
We have two paid off cars (had since new) and they only get used on weekends these days. I'm tempted to sell one but purchasing another will be expensive and you never know what disaster you may be walking into second hand.
