Uber pickup at OR Thambo

So I'll need to use uber once I arrive at OR Thambo in a few days time,

Problem is that the last time I tried, the driver couldn't come to the pickup zone at arrivals, and wanted me to come to level 3 parking or the like, not knowing where that was exactly, and with the help of a useless police officer, I was directed to the wrong place, and after half an hour we eventually found each other.

Trying to avoid that this time, so the question is, where exactly does one go to in OR Thambo for uber pickups generally?
Will need a detailed explanation , even to get to the car hire at OR Thambo is a mission.
 
Take the Gautrain to Rosebank or Sandton and try rent a car there? Or Uber from the above. Less frustrating

So uber at ORT is always frustrating?
 
Ok so I won't be able to use the gautrain due to my flight arriving in the early hours of the morning, so will need the details regarding pickup location
 
Uber at ORT only picks up from departures (upstairs). Get off your plane and go upstairs. People typically wait towards the end of main straight.
 
There is a dedicated zone for Uber pick ups now. They make announcements about continuously on the intercom.
Parking level 2 I think. Once you get there you have to then find the pillars which are assigned to the drivers. Luckily the area has low traffic volumes.

This is a better approach compared to what they used to have. I’ve found it much easier to find my driver.
 
Wait at Parkade 2 which is opposite domestic departures. When exiting domestic departures, go past the SAPS stand and over the bridge and you'll be near the right place.

It's poorly marked and no one is interested to help you.

Everyone at to the airport are buddies with to be taxi drivers there. The will do anything for you not to use Uber.

Those taxi drivers are desperate and become a real nuisance at times.

Wow, things have changed a lot. Thanks for the correction. Will be at OR this Friday so this will help me too.

Went away last month for about 20 days, was initially going to Uber but ended up using these guys. Works out cheaper than Uber and less schlep imo.

Parkade level 2 is now the designated area. So you walk accross that bridge thingie like you going to Parking on level 2 - second door on the left you can exit and wait there.

I think they did it because of the attacks from taxis happening to Uber drivers. Those metered taxis are a bunch of criminals. I had one harass me once once saying why u using Uber, there’s no Uber here. And I said “hey, bugger off and mind your own business I’ll use whatever I want”. I would have kicked them all out if I was in charge and made it e-hailing only :)

I rarely take Ubers from ORT and found the pickup zone easily this weekend.

Asked about 4 different people wearing those green reflector jackets "where do the Ubers pickup from?" and all of them kept pointing me in the right direction.

The pickup zone is at parkade 2E. Just keep asking random airport staff, and they will point you the right way.

If I remember correctly, it is the bridge opposite international arrivals that you take to get to the parkade.

Interestingly, when you confirm the trip on the Uber app, there are directions that come up on how to get to the designated pickup zone. The app provides directions from both international and domestic arrival terminals.
 
Go to Parkade parking area 2. There is a uber pickup area there. I use it all the time when travelling Just text the driver and let him know you are in parkade 2.

They rob you with anything to do with the airport. Hence the other suggestions to take the gautrain to Marlboro or santon first. That's also the most expensive bit of the gautrain.
