Uber vs Bolt - Ride-hailing app pricing

Bolt's cheaper pricing comes at a cost.. The MIL used Bolt one day and the driver either refused or just didn't want to use the maps on his phone to be directed to the destination (my house)..

I get a call from the MIL, please explain to this driver how to get to your house.. In between all this, the driver is going on about how his petrol is going to waste driving up and down..

Also spoke to an Uber driver one day, who also drives for bolt.. He said that driver vetting process for Bolt is nowhere near as involved as Uber's.. He also mentioned one or two other scary things, which I cannot verify, so won't mention here..

I would rather spend the extra money on Uber..

Agreed. The wife goes to work using Uber only. That said, we have had drivers accepting the trip then presumably accepting another more lucrative trip (Bolt) and then just carry on their merry way without cancelling our trio (they get penalized when they cancel, so they hope you cancel instead). Still, Uber is safer than Bolt with a better level of service.

I've had this cancellation issue with Uber. And the ****ers even charged me a cancellation fee.

I pull a Karen and go to Twitter. Eventually they refund me with their standard response apologies.

Yeah, I've used both services and have had similar experiences with Bolt. Drivers have been dodge. Many have harassed me to cancel the trip and pay cash. Some have stopped to fill up petrol as soon as they fetched me. I sometimes felt like they took the longest route possible to get a higher fare. Most gave me the heebie-jeebies.
No, never again. I stick to uber now. The drivers are professional, cars are clean and no dodgy behaviour.

I've used both multiple times, Bolt is cheaper, but does have more issues. With Bolt I have had:

A driver accept my trip, not show up and refuse to cancel.
A driver stop to fill his tank.
A driver pick up another passenger while on my trip.

Bolt acknowledged the problem but did nothing more, no refunds either.

With Uber the worst I have had is a long weight and a GPS put my location a bit further up the street.

100% agree with others here. Bolt is dodgy AF!
Had a driver accept a job, then moan it wasnt a cash job and that he would run out of fuel. Decided to start driving the opposite way with me in the car... Said I could get out on the free way if I wanted...

Bolt... Did... Nothing...!

Bolt is horrble tryed them.once the driver was so rude unprofessional uber is the best my aunts kid who's 17 got raped when she booked a bolt to take her home the driver took her to hes house and 6 guys were waiting and guess what hes stll driving on the app noting happned bolt dont care and the police didn't want to take her case uber is the safest

Agreed. There's a reason Bolt is cheaper.
Uber driver that drives for both mentioned safety standards, hospital insurance and criminal checks are better on Uber.
I like competition but not at the cost of safety.

Did you have solid evidence of it or was it just hearsay?

His details must have been recorded and I find it hard to see how Bolt would not take something of this nature lightly. Bad things happen on these services but there are also a lot of conspiracy theories about them going around.

There is also now InDriver. I tried it once but the driver was unprofessional and cancelled the trip.

I haven't used Uber in over two years. Bolt is cheaper and I usually get the promos for being a frequent user. I haven't had any very bad experiences but I usually barely talk to the drivers anyway.

The good thing is that if more and more of these services come up, they will become cheaper and cheaper. Maybe on day it will even be more practical than owning a car?

It could hopefully be similar to the energy drink trend. Ten years ago, they were more expensive than they are today because Play and Red Bull were the only brands on the market.

I had issues from both. When they dont pitch up and ask me to cancel then I just tell them I will use the other service. I have read their terms so I know they will charge me a penalty. 1 driver even sweared that they wont charge me lol.
He took almost an hour to cancel the trip.. He thought he can pull 1 over me.

I deleted the bolt app on my phone after just a few trips. The cars are generally in a poor state, drivers less professional and the overall experience felt unsafe. They deem Datsun Go+ as a 7 seater and charge accordingly. It literally has a longer boot with a cushion in it. Madness. Uber might be a bit more expensive but with ebucks rewards and the generally better experience I prefer to use them.
