I have happily used Uber regularly for last year or two doing numerous trips using the company travel credit card all over the world. Two weeks ago one of my staff members needed to return home from a work related job and I asked him to sign up a new account on Uber, use the company travel credit card and book a ride. He did not know how to navigate the sign up.
Here’s what happened:
1) He used the company card number and my profile popped up
2) Used my email address
3) Used my mobile number.
Uber system opened up with my account no password needed, on his phone (Apple SE) and allowed him to:
1) Change the name to his
2) book a ride
3) cancel all other cards
He obviously recognized the mistake. The ride is legit. But because he did this my access was blocked and he just signed in for the second time, again no password needed.
3 mails requesting assistance on Uber website has gone unanswered. I still have no access and after this and am not sure if I want to. The big question is whether Uber can protect my credit card if it cannot protect my account details? What if someone steals my wallet with my business card in, he can hijack my account; no password required?
Has anyone else had a similar experience? How did you sort it out? Was Uber responsive?
