Hi All,

My company currently has a mixture of old different AP's around the building each with there own SSID.
There are around 50 staff employees that are connected to these APS.

I need to source around 5 new AP's as the company is moving to a different building.

i am looking for the ceiling mount unifi devices but i believe the company will only budget for the lite version.

This will all be setup as a mesh network(one ssid). Can this be done with the lite version? The internet speed is currently 50mb/s as this is all they need.

Will these Ap's allow for 50 connections with out issues?

I am looking at this https://shop.dbg.co.za/ub-uap-ac-lite5.html

Thank you

Yes, these will mesh.. my personal recommendation is to get a cloud key as well, which is dedicated to running the ubiquiti controller software, which you need to configure the APs with the WiFi configuration.. there are other ways to run the controller software, i just find the cloud key a much more convenient, low power and standalone device simpler to manage as opposed to a VM on some server somewhere etc..

In a mesh, with users connected to different APs at the same time, the lite version will be fine.. if all users end up on the same AP at the same time, it's gonna be a hard time..

To add
50 users might not be 50 devices. A laptop + cellphone + whatever else.
Good luck finding stock though, been very difficult to find.

I am going to see the new premises on friday. i know in the current premises about 30 users connect to one AP and the rest of the APs is about 10 each

They are moving at end of February. I am going through on Friday to see what the new premises look like so i can quote on the equipment. If there isnt stock when they need the installations done i am thinking of going mikrotik cap ac as i have used them alot in home environments but never in a corporate environment

Are you talking about this? https://shop.dbg.co.za/ub-uck-g2-plus.html it is the first time i heard about the cloud key.

Shouldn’t be a problem with the number of people. Considering they’ve worked on a **** show with different SSID’s and probably some consumer grade **** it will be light years ahead even at its worst.

The layout and installation will be more of the trick to have just enough overlap but not too much so that people connect to their closest AP.

Ideally you want every desk to have line of sight to an AP and set them all to lower power levels.

What kind of router are you going to run with them? I would highly recommend just dropping in a UDM Pro and forgetting the cloud key.

Even better get a UDM Pro Special Edition and you don’t need the PoE switch as well.

The router we will be using is the Cisco Meraki. I will find out everything on the new premises on Friday. If it is similar to the current then it is open for each department. So all laptops will have line of site to the AP in there department

Have you looked at these. Same performance and setup. Free Cloud Controller. Lots of stock available as well.

I have never heard of those but for the same price i get the unfi long range ceiling mount ap which im thinking of first quoting on a few of those before i quote on the lite.
