Hi,

I have a brand new machine with Gigabyte B85M-HD3 Motherboard, Gigabyte Nvidia GT640 graphics.
Windows 8 installed and runs fine.

I installed Ubuntu 12.04 as a dual boot, but I had to set the Motherboard to boot to IGFX (internal graphics) to even get to the installation. This setting is only the initial display output but that can be taken over later it seems.

If I try and run the OS in recovery mode when it is said to PCI E 1 Slot, I get

Code:
nvidia: module License 'NVIDIA' taints kernel
.

I also get a few lines below saying:
Code:
input: HDA Nvidia HDMI/DP, pcm=8 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.1/sound/card2/input15

There are three of these lines with similar text. (pcm =7,3) and input (15,16,17).

If I use IFGX to boot, the pink Ubuntu loading screen comes up and I can now login fine.
I can also boot fine into the recovery mode to access the terminal.

This is where I am at now to get to this point:
I did:

Code:
sudo apt-get purge nvidia*
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-settings

I haven't added or removed any other packages.
Please help me how I can use my Nvidia card, cannot seem to be getting it to play nicely with any drivers.

I did:

Code:
sudo apt-get purge nvidia*
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-settings
You don't need these drivers, they are older than the ones in 12.04.3.

The latest Nvidia drivers have been released for 13.10 and 12.04.3 only:
