Phew, what a morning! Got Ubuntu server up and running with Mambo installed. Now how do I go about giving it a domain name on the Microsoft network that runs in our company. ie. Currently I'm looking at the site through its IP as I cant access it through a host name.

I've read about a program called Samba, will this allow me to access folders on the Linux box? Currently I'm using an FTP server running in another virtual machine to copy files etc.

Yes. Samba will give you file access like any other windows share. To use the hostname, I would recommend putting it in the DNS, so that your browser can resolve the hostname to an IP. Making it part of the domain is not needed for this.
