I just got my 15 free ubuntu cd's from "ship-it", so being like "i really have had enuff of ms" ok, i install the "breezy badger" ubuntu 5.10
i am amazed but not suprised to find a 10 degree drop in temperature.
i am running an amd64 bit processor with dfi lan party nforce3
everything worked out the box!!!!!
the way it should !!!!!

but guys seriosely 10 deg drop in temperature shows just how hard a processor has to work to drag the overbloated MS system around.
i guess i wont be buying the 64bit windows OS after all.

any Linux Flav'ad boffins know perhaps why this temperature drop is so much?

lmsensors could be reading it incorrectly, or the windows software could be reading it incorrectly. To be 100% sure, strap a digital thermometer to your heatsink and try each OS.

To be honest though, i've seen similar results and i do have an external thermometer on. I didnt trust the results from the onchip gauges and wanted to make sure that im reading the right values. The external reads a bit lower cause youre measuring heatsink temps and not die temps, but it should at least show a similar diff between the OS'es.
