Ubuntu Causes Student to Drop Out

that's like a person buying an Uno and complaining it's not as good as a Ferrari...if you didn't know that, that's YOUR problem.

lols

You guys are arguing about how she looks etc. Im confused why this would be in a news bulletin?

"Cute" can be understood in many different days. In my highschool days (boys koshuis...) it was something like this... ;)

Actually, the comparison would be closer to the mark by saying that its like the person buying the Ferrari and complaining that it doesn't have Uno's parking ability, and demanding that Ferrari take it back, because she was misled.

"This story made a lot of people very very angry and the phone calls and the emails have just been pouring in all day. I can't even read most of them here on the air because they're abusive, they're hateful and they attack the young woman from our story." :D

It's a pity really. Even though this story is pretty sensationalist, the end of the first report shows that both the college and the ISP confirmed that she can, in fact, use Ubuntu (this is a major improvement compared to a few short years ago), so this turned out to be good publicity. But then the fan base went and spoiled it with their childish superiority complex. Harassing her on her facebook page? That's just uncalled for.

Guess she don't know about OpenOffice either?

My thoughts exactly when reading the part about how she couldn't install MS Word, why on earth would she want to when OpenOffice is there already, and for free. Not sure how Verizon works, but I am pretty sure that she could have got that working as well.

Like I saw in one of the comments on Youtube, Dell apparently make it quite clear on their website that the laptop does not come with Windows, but Ubuntu. What did she think Ubuntu was, a new version of Solitaire?. Stupid Cow.

"Ubuntu doesn't work like Windows"... you think? :D

Ok, this is slightly irritating, I must say...

The original story DID make an attempt to show Ubuntu in a bad light. Then, after the numerous offers of free help, which would put a positive spin on it, people decide to harass her etc. Way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory :(

Unfortunately you will get those children that ruin a grown-up world, and this is not restricted to Linux, go post something defamatory on a Counter Strike, UT2007, Windows, Mac, <insert favourite company> website and see the response...

I'm still trying to fathom how a person drops out of spring and fall semesters but goes to summer and winter .. this girl was looking for an excuse and some journalist gave her airtime.

I think that kinda says it all ;)

Someone once said "One man's meat is another man's poison"

That equals Linux my meat :) and Windows my poison
