Ubuntu CE - Christian edition

I came across this recently while researching how to get dansguardian to play nice with Ubuntu. I was going to go through setting up all the content filtering from scratch, but found out them Christians love to filter the internet... so their Ubuntu based distro does this all for you!

Haha! I had come across Ubuntu CE a while back, never occured to me to use it as a filter

Do me a favour and send me a tarball of all the DG config files and squid acls that you pilfer from it, will make my life easier when setting up filtering for another school.

I wonder what connection Jesus has...

Dansguardian FTW!!!

Used it at my work, and it did the job required to filter out all questionable content

btw - www.dansguardian.org is the homepage to true content filtering for linux.

We use DG to filter Facebook based on actual headers/footers on the facebook pages themselves (what with all those annoying "facebook-unblock" sites and applications around), ensuring no one can access that infernal time-waster no matter how hard they try.

For time/IP-based internet access, use Squid.
For everything else; use Dans Guardian.

FWIW - Smoothwall's got an "adzap" module which updates itself - and you can chain it with Dansguardian into squid, thus blocking pesky popups and floaters (such as from www.webmail.co.za) without too much hassle.
