I seem to have really bad luck re sound cards, see my previous thread -> http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=200158

I got myself a new graphics card today, Asus EN9600GT, which I plugged into my PCI-E slot and then moved my sound card down a slot. It was all working fine until I tested a HD youtube video. There was a sudden loud screeching beep and the computer froze. I restarted and my sound stopped working, not only that but it doesn't actually pick up my sound card anymore.

I have 3 PCI slots but can only use 1 since the graphics card takes up all the space so I can't really test it in another slot.

I'm running Ubuntu Karmic and these are some outputs from when the card was working:

lspci -v

what does lsmod | grep snd return?

have you tried disabling pulseaudio?

Doesn't sound like good news, have you tried to re-seat the card in another slot?

I did try but to do this, I had to remove my graphics card since they can't both fit if I use the other PCI slot. The card does work though so it seems the PCI slot is bust - bummer :(

It doesn't actually pick up any device in that slot so returns nothing.

I'm gonna have to get myself a new motherboard and case tomorrow - this upgrades turning in to a complete new buy.
