UCT honours #ChrisHani by renaming building after him

Chris Hani seemed like a decent guy. Except for the comunist stuff, but given time he might have realised how flawed that is just like Mandela.

You mean like whisked away to Davos to be wined and dined by the 1% crowd and come back a changed man? Out with nationalization and in with corrupt billion rand deals with European arms companies.....

The good old days when corruption scandals were still a scandal and not just business as usual.

That isn't the point. It is a science centre, name it appropriately after someone that did something sciency. Don't you have any qualified black heroes in the appropriate field?

LOL did you even go to uni?

A lot of building names are either random, numbers, named after famous people from an unrelated field/politician, or people that donated the funds to have the building constructed. It is almost a surprise when the building is actually named after an accomplished individual from a related field.

Name it after someone sciency pfft.

Quick look at a map of Wits seem to show that you are wrong and all the buildings has appropriate names.

And No. Never went to Uni. Wasn't that privileged. I did all my studying part-time.

Kark. The vast majority of Wits buildings have generic names. Physics building, Engineering building, Commerce Law and Management, Biology, Chamber of Mines etc.

The buildings named after people are usually libraries or residences.

Almost no buildings where study of X takes place are named after people accomplished in field X.

Gereric is normal and fine. You claimed buildings have unrelated random names.

Don't try and shift goal-posts. You were the one making a hullabaloo about naming it after a person related to the field, not a generic subject.

Wits just happens to have a high number of generic ones compared to other universities, but it has plenty of random ones too, as do others.

Point is buildings are rarely named after such people.

Probably funded the building. If you build a building you can also put your name on it.

No schit Sherlock, I already pointed that out. Point is almost no buildings are named after a person related to the field.

But so far they all have relevant names. Non of it named after some random person.

Mine was a serious question. Please treat it as such. What has Chris Hani got to do with science?

Nothing. But you'll find that buildings named after people at universities have nothing to do with what actually goes on in said buildings. People complaining that Chris Hani has nothing to do with science are making much ado about nothing.

Next thing you know they'll be biatching about most university chancellors not being academics themselves.
