I want to get an HD Decoder, but have heard that the RF output from the Pace Decoder is pretty bad, and the quality of the RF output is important as I will use that a lot.

So, I have been looking for a UEC HD Decoder, but haven't seen one anywhere, any ideas of where to get one ?

Alternatively I can get a Pace HD Decoder, but then I will also need a Component -> RF Converter. Also a problem as the Pace doesn't have a S-Video output and composite is presumably not good enough.

Any other ideas ?

UECs are available to Multichoice offices, not sure if its been rolled out anywhere else yet

Why are you getting an HD decoder to use the RF output so much?
Might be a better idea to run AV cables to that viewing environment if you are going to use it that much, will at least give you better pic quality & stereo audio

To convert to RF, composite is more than good enough and AV modulators are readily available. You won't get better quality RF, by converting from component or S-video. Remember that if you are using a RF modulator to convert the picture for RF viewing in the second viewing environment, you will not have TVlink capabilities anymore.

Are these the second generation HD decoders? Which one would be better between the pace and UEC?

There seems to be pros and cons for both decoders...

I have read complaints about the sound quality on the UEC decoders for the normal SD channels (HD is fine though) - Pace is fine. People say the UEC is a bit more responsive - less menu/remote delays than the PACE.

So to me there isn't a real winner :(

I have read on the DSTV forum from Multichoice that they have fixed the bugs about sound and that the new software which they apparently fixed can now be downloaded - Pace and UEC decoders, well that's what they said.

Good, but the poor RF on the Pace is probably a hardware issue that can't be fixed with a firmware upgrade.

okay here goes, dont ask my why or how it works, it just works

my setup is as follows, hd pvr and dsd 1110 extra view hd is main unit and 1110 is conected via heart beat all in the lounge, tvlink is off on hd and on on the 1110, main tv only connected with av cables, on both decoders
rfin from hd to spliter(normal cable spliter not powerd) , out of spliter 1 cable goes to rfout of 1110 and other cable goes to my bedroom , but not conected to tv just use it to power tv link. (so commport on hd is rfin and on dsd is rfout)
rfout from hd goes to my bedroom and this goes into the tv and for what ever reason i get both channels crystal clear (for RF)
any other way picture is crap or tv link doesnt work or i only get signal from the 1110,

call it a weird hectic connection, all i know it works :)

Not sure that I could duplicate that setup, I also want to use just one decoder.

There are specials at the moment on the Pace HD PVR, so what do I do about the poor RF Out ???
