I predict Milan to boss Man Utd in the next game and go onto beat liverpool in th final

Just to add: 6 games left for them in the League and 2 points off the top - Bremen look set to clinch the title as they have an easier run-in.

It will be tough for the Germans and on top of it all, the other 3 teams left in the UEFA cup are all Spanish. Did they forget which competition is more important.:rolleyes:

Three English teams in the semi's of the CL and defenitely one in the finals?
That was an unknown thing when I started watching soccer in 1992 (due to MNET) what went wrong with soccer in europe?

The team that I will support in the UK already settled, I think in 1977 when I won a bet via a joke...

Nothing went wrong, the English Teams just gave Europe a rest bite:) (when Liverfool got them all banned.)

Since they came back (1990) the stats are as follows:
ENG: CL x2 and UEFA x4 = 6
SPA:CL x5 and UEFA x4 = 9
ITA: CL x4 and UEFA x3 = 7
GER: CL x2 and UEFA x1 = 3
Others: CL x4 and UEFA x5 = 9

Not good reading for the English teams, but maybe this year it starts to turnaround.

Yes that would increase the quality of the Champions League tremendously.


We would also get less games ending 7-1. :D

I took a seat among the “ches” last Tuesday night.

The ches are Valencia supporters, a fervent bunch with a strategy: before the kick-off their thinking seemed that if they couldn’t deafen Chelsea at their home ground, the steep-sided Mestalla, they would blind them.

Every fan had a bright, fluorescent orange square of paper on his chair. Just before the second leg of the quarterfinal, each fan held it up to form a stunning mosaic: the arena was surrounded by bright orange. Valencia’s colours are actually white and black, but the region produces lovely oranges. Orange has become the colour of support.

And until late last Tuesday, the Mestalla had made itself an orangey, fiery citadel of indomitability in modern European football. In the Champions League Valencia had conceded one goal there this season in five matches. No British club, in seven attempts, had won there since the turn of the millennium.

In 43 European matches over the same period, Valencia had lost fewer than 10%. At 1-1 after the first leg in London, Chelsea needed to win, or draw, scoring two goals or more. At 25 minutes in, with Valencia’s Fernando Morientes having hit the post and converted a Joaquin cross for 2-1 on aggregate, the ches were on their feet, singing, anticipating an orange semifinal.

Then, gradually, the game passed through a strange prism turning orange to blue. If there is not much to love about Chelsea — with their extravagant spending, their institutional bitching, their coach’s boasting and their frequent preference for direct football ahead of a more decorative game — boy, do they have some athletes.

Jose Mourinho, the immodest touchline thespian, had taken some bold decisions before the game. He had selected Nigerian prodigy John Mikel Obi, in central midfield ahead of the redoubtable and vastly experienced Claude Makelele.

It worked. He needed the odd prompt from captain John Terry about keeping his position — not his natural one, because Obi is less an anchor player than an attacking midfielder — but if there was ever a night the young Nigerian came of age this may well have been it.

Didier Drogba, not among the goals for a change, was as usual a handful. The winning strike, an angled drive in injury time after Andriy Shevchenko had equalised, would come from the phenomenal Michael Essien.

Essien, it should be remembered, had reached this scoring position from right back, where he had been deployed for the second half. So, like Obi, he had been engaged not in his natural role, being a midfielder.

Repeatedly, Mourinho challenges Essien about quite how much ground he can cover. He has played at centre-back this season for Chelsea, too, and on Tuesday was coming back after an absence from the first team. Allegedly shy of full fitness, he played midfield for the first 45 minutes, fullback the next. And celebrating the 91st minute goal looked like he could have run for a further 90 if asked.

Valencia players talked in awe about Chelsea’s stamina, physical power, their inexhaustibility. Reporters, were obliged to ask about targets, about a quadruple. The club entered four competitions at the beginning of the season, have won the most minor — the English League Cup — and remain in contention for the other three.

Today, in the last four of the FA Cup, the most African squad among Europe’s super-elite — with the Ivorians Drogba and Kalou, the Ghanaian Essien and Nigerian Obi — meet the most South African club in England, the Blackburn of Benni McCarthy and Aaron Mokoena.

Even if the Rovers turn Ewood Park into a mini-Mestalla, you’d barely give them half a chance.

Don't know about the ManU game but I can't see Liverpool outscoring Chelsea. The key for Chelsea will be to play Essien in midfield.
 
I'd rather play Chelsea than Liverpool in the final (assuming united make it) but looking at the form Liverpool is in and their big game mentality, they have a good chance against Chelsea. Their strikers have struck decent form. Seeing chelsea didn't fare very well against Newcastle I would say Liverpool should do decently.
 
Chelsea still burn from being eliminated by Liverpool two seasons ago in the Champions league semi-finals via what they deemed a illegitimate goal, they have been waiting for this chance of revenge for a long time.
