United v Madrid

Headline:

"Return of Ronaldo"...followed by "The new guy makes number 7 his Owen"....;)

It would be a good group if Barcelona and Real Madrid were drawn together.

They can't. No same countries can get drawn together in the group stages. So no Inter and Milan or Real and Barca groups.

I expect us to get either barca, man utd or chelsea from pot 1.

Followed up by an article the next day - Owen falls over a leaf and breaks leg. Again. Out for up to three years. Will make comeback with Huddersfield Town when they get to the Premiership (2019).

You are probably right but.....

I seem to remember a few years ago, I think in 2006, that we were drawn with Chelsea in the same group?

Stage two mate... stage two...

No mate, I remember it clearly, it was well before Christmas when we played Chelsea in the group stages so it was definitely the start of the competition as in Stage 1.

If I remember that was the year you were put into the group stages when uefa changed their rules after you won the cl and everton finished 4th. They put you into the cl even though the rules said you didn't qualify. So they stripped you of country protection for the group stage.

Ahhh, smart man. Now I remember. That is definitely the reason. Thanks.

BTW Smokey, the second stage (phase) was taken away after 2002 as far as I remember.

Bollocks. He's had one injury plagued season - a season that Owen would kill for. don't be jelas now...
