Ugh...

Gone 6.30pm. And no improvement...

And combined the terrible speeds all day on the office Network...

Is anyone's connection cooking today?

I presume everyone else has given this some speculative attention, anyways, assume that the story about serious 300:1 contention is true, i.e. not enough bandwidth available, and that is the reason for the additional 15Mb from IS.

That being the case, we also know that the WBS bandwidth management system is not working properly - evidence: some are getting more than 1Mbits/s, others [presumably lots if contention is 300:1] are getting sub dialup slowness - what that tells me is that bandwidth is not being shared properly, correct?

My conclusion: WBS' bandwidth management system is not working properly, or for that matter as advertised - for the moment put aside the question of whether it correctly counts & records the bytes transferred on your behalf ;).

My point: even if the IS pipe is in place tomorrow sometime, WBS still need to get their bandwidth management & sharing system sorted in order to fairly distribute up to 1Mbits/s to uncapped customers, and preferably a minimum of 64kBits/s to capped/throttled customers - otherwise we will continue playing Russian Roulette when connecting - if indeed the above assumptiousness has a shred of truth propping it up...;)

I totaly agree here with IC, you can own a dam, but if you dont know how to let out the water properly you create trickles and rivers.

Nice analogy WickedWeasel :)

I think you might be right IC... they're not giving everyone their fair share... and I'm the idiot that's getting the short end of the stick again :(

edit: I'm getting a blistering 2.6k on FTP - fcking ridiculous!

given WBS doesn't seem to be metering usage properly, maybe their system is incorrectly reading some users as capped?
That may also help to explain why some are getting high speeds while others are getting crap?

it seems to be logical to conclude that. i know i have not reached my cap according to wbs and my own bw monitoring tools yet i am receiving 20KB/s or less where just yesterday and the days before speeds were outstanding.

is it not time wbs admit the problems and call in kyocera to help sort out problems. if this continues any longer iburst's image will be irreversibly damaged like another wireless company we all know.

my current speeds

local
170.9 Kbps
20.9 kBytes/sec

international
53.52 Kbps
6.69 KBps

if this continues i believe i shall migrate my money to a more stable and proven broadband offer.

If only WBS will break the silence and stop the second hand Waves of BullSh1t...

No speed since about 08:00 this morning

Seems patience is wearing very thin, the thing is we can only hope that WBS do deliver on their promise of Saturday at the very latest, make no mistake, iBurst was great when it worked for me - I know what the technology was capable of back in November & December 2004.

I really think it is time that Mr Parvin, as an unggaged/unshackled member of WBS' Executive Management got around to explaining the situation to customers, i.e. the people who pay his salary & bonus! It would be soo refreshing if Mr Parvin could post an open and honest status update - it could well alleviate the distrust that customers feel...

PS: If you are tempted to call Shaun & cr@p all over him, then I suggest you rather don't - the guy is seriously ill, leave him be, and he cannot help you from his sick bed. The person you want to paint a target on is Mr Sasan Parvin - if he is allowed to speak to & participate in interviews with the press, then he certainly is allowed to speak to customers as well ;).

I just downloaded RPM's ICASA presentation at 6.7 kByte per sec. on GPRS using a 2 year old Nokia 6310. TheYak, you have my sympathies.

I'd rather not call anybody to hear more BS. I don't have a problem with iBurst experiencing problems, that's normal, especially in this business, but don't pretend nothing is wrong and they shouldn't treat their clients like mushrooms - it is not 1995 when the Internet in SA was still very young, the clients are quite knowledgeable these days...

Edit: not intending to be derogatory of Shaun, but he seems to be just a puppet in WBS. I'm sure his intentions are good and out of concern for us, the WBS clients, but WBS pays his salary.
