Uh, so, uh, I got LTE from Telkom

No speedtest? Is it a contract?

I am 600m from the base station but I am much higher than the basestation. My house is on the hill and the BTS downhill from me. In addition I have a crap load of trees in the way of my antenna on the roof. I get 3 bars and a consiste 15Mbps. Happy with it considering it's 5 x faster than the ADSL I had.

And at R599 including uncapped bandwidth you cannot beat this offer unless you go fibre.

Kudo's to Telkom on this one - a really excellent product.

Yeah I was very skeptical but pretty much sold on it.

What actually sold me initially was my phone, one day my ADSL decided that my games should be 2000ms, so I switched to my stupid little iphone 5s LTE, the latency was superior to a WORKING DSL connection, I was pretty much converted to wireless from that day.

Have to note old wireless sucked ass Sentech oh my God that was bad years ago, sheesh.

With the cost of copper theft etc Telkom can take out the ancient copper from the loop and just spam LTE hotspots across ZA, seriously, good tech, very reliable, much more impressive than 3G and ADSL combined.

If a neighborhoods copper is stolen, just sell the DSLAM and plak down an LTE ap terminating at fiber.

It feels like Telkom isn't winning at the moment, but they've got the tech now they must very fiercely replace the ancient infraco with this across ZA to stay ahead, MTN has some scary LTE coverage if those idiots decide to lowball Telkom its over I think, they're thankfully pricing themselves out of the business atm, and judging by their approach to WhatsApp BEE has a solid grip on the companies thinking abilities so thank God for that, from Telkoms' perspective.

telkom's problem is that they have government mandate to maintain copper infrastructure.

I live in Honeydew and I get decent speeds even though I have only one signal bar. My upload is pathetic though.

The problem with LTE is (and not even LTE-A)... killing the allotted 50GB by 4am on October the 1st...

...only 15 more days to go.
/cry

If I place the Router next to a window then I get 2 bars, that pushes my speeds to about +30Mbps

lol I've used about 150GB yesterday just downloading PS4 and Xbox One games and Steam games, still going strong.

If I had to I can do 500GB easily in a weekend, but it's all legal though, no torrent garbage.

Get the uncapped option?

Pretty much this, if you don't use dodgy crap that degrades the network for everyone else (Torrents) then I absolutely recommend going the uncapped route (Twitch, Steam, Xbone, PS4, Origin, Youtube, Showmax)
