Well, its possible that my TV isn't the only thing on the network, that metric was directly from my ISP. My apologies, so it is bull****. My TV doesn't report on the data rate, only the resolution, all I noticed was that the one day that I did watch the 4k movie, the usage spiked significantly. They do recommend a 25mbit/s connection though, probably to handle overhead and buffer properly (see here https://help.netflix.com/en/node/306).
... So you get 4k UHD Blurays... And players... Would still prefer streaming, even if its only at 720p, with instant playback of a movie that I'll probably watch once.
