UIF for foreign nationals

Hello,

Can anyone give me quick advice if UIF is to be paid for a Zimbabwean Domestic worker? According to the bits and bobs I found trawling the net, it appears that even if I pay UIF for her, if she ever got retrenched , went on maternity leave, etc she would never be entitled to use it being a foreign national which seems a bit unfair.

Wondering what I should do? Either figure out how to pay the UIF, or just give her the money itself.

Yes she can claim UIF

UIF isn’t limited to South Africans only. So as long as you keep receipts of her salary and with her pay slip listing uif and you have documented proof you are paying her uif to department of laboring etc, then she can legally claim UIF for pregnancy and retrenchment.

However UIF can not be claimed if she quits her job or gets fired from it. UIF doesn’t cover for it. And even if it’s retrenchment it must be an owner or company initiated retrenchment.

UIF can be claimed by anyone that gets retrenched (not initiated by themself), maternity leave, retirement.

She would need to have all her home affairs paper in order. Ie valid passport with work permit. They will create a new number for her and it takes 6-8 weeks for the application (a bit longer than locals). But they will back pay her from the retrenchment date
