A University of Johannesburg (UJ) student was hijacked on campus and robbed, police said on Friday.

An armed man approached the 23-year-old student while she was parking in the university's Kingsway campus parking lot at 9am on Thursday, said Constable Elizabeth Mnguni.

He pointed a firearm at her and told her to move over to the passenger seat.

The man drove out of the campus to an empty parking lot where he tied her hands, put her in the boot of the car, and drove to an ATM.

"She says she gave him the pin because he promised to hurt her [if she did not]," said Mnguni.

The man left her in an open area in Eldorado Park, where she was later found.

"They took her to the police station where a carjacking case was opened, but transferred to Brixton where the crime happened," Mnguni said.

UJ spokesman Herman Esterhuizen said the university had launched an internal investigation into what happened.

"Arrangements are being made to meet with the alleged victim so that we can extend our support by counselling etc, and to get a better understanding of what happened," he said.

"The safety of students is of highest priority."

Flip.... and UJ's security was tight when I used to go there.

I wonder if its because they have become lax or because these guys were just real coyboys.

My friend was robbed in the parking lot. 3 guys walked behind him and put a knife behind his back and took his ipod.

It's weird this is reported because I'm sure many students have been victims on the UJ campus.

On another note: getting mugged or forced to an ATM is my greatest fear because as a student if you hit me at the wrong time of the month I have like R50 max in there lmao and they will never believe you.

lol if I was that mugger I'd give you my shoes and jacket out of sympathy :D

Suspected UJ Hijacker Arrested

A man was arrested in Ennerdale, south of Johannesburg, on Friday in connection with the hijacking and kidnapping of a University of Johannesburg student, police said.

The 18-year-old man was allegedly found in possession of the hijacked car in Ennerdale extension four, Constable Elizabeth Mnguni said.

He would be charged with possession of a hijacked vehicle.

UJ's deputy vice-chancellor for strategic services Professor Derek van der Merwe said the university met the student.

"We have interviewed the female student involved to gather as much information as possible and to provide her with whatever support is deemed necessary. Clearly this was an extremely traumatic incident and UJ will offer counselling to her and her family."

Van der Merwe said the university was working closely with police.

They had a sound clip of her on the radio... the guys used her student card to get out of the university, the card was actually expired and when they tried to exit... so they just went to security and they let them out :erm:
