So decided to register at unisa for another degree, so went through to UJ to get a copy of my academic record, so nice 15km drive there to find out that no you can only get a copy via Some QVS website. So drive 15km home, register with on the site with some issues. Only to find out it cost R100 for a copy of your records, what a FING rip off.. I wonder who is getting there back pocket filled with the back handers???

 Jirre what the hell is going on with the inflation?

Jokes aside Did you get it from the same people?

Well that was from the faculty at UJ, but when I went this year they gave me the story about QVS....

Very pissed off at the moment, hate the feeling of been ripped off

Wow. When I was at uni it cost about R25 for a set. Your first set each year was free though and only thereafter did you pay.

R100 is insane.

I can remember it being about R125 at UCT but then you got 3 sets.

why would u ever need more than one copy (at a time)?? Get your original, make 10 copies, get the copies certified @ SAPS or whatever... lol.

A lot of tertiary institutions want originals, especially when applying as an international student because it's very difficult to know how trustworthy each country's notary methods are.

Wits was about R100 also, except I never did get a copy. When I got to the faculty office, it has moved, and when I got to the new faculty office, it was closed for two days (in the middle of the ****ing semester.) I had an old copy and gave that to Unisa, but now I've not none left. One day I'll go and get a new one. Ja, R100 is steep, but what can you do.

Yea.. my wife wanted to get her Academic record (was at NKP then they became part of UP). Had to pay R100 too. What a rip off.

LOL. Still quite funny how R100 is a total rip off to most people and not an investment (what does one need them for? definitely not just framing them on the wall) yet spending a large chunk of your income on some toy that has big wheels is a total necessity. Priorities in SA are a funny thing :)

well considering the amount of money you spent on your education, you'd think your academic record would be free.

Last time I needed my Academic Record from the Faculty of Science, it was free...and that was the end of last year :/

It is most of the time, clearly UJ is the exception. It's just excess copies that are charged. Nonetheless, even if they made me pay for any copy whatsoever I still wouldn't have had a problem with it as one already knows their mark through the online facility and the only reason one would need the original print-outs is if applying for a job (rarely in my experience, they don't even ask for a copy of the degree certificate) or more likely applying for postgraduate studies. Either way, it's not a waste as I would consider both those steps a huge investment, be it a career or furthering yourself academically.

I guess one other way to look at it is them trying to minimise the amount of paper that gets handled (if they were free, every student would want 20 copies just for the hell of it) as well as administrative staff time (in UP at least, they are dealt by the general customer service staff, i.e. the busiest people).

Just another question :

Did you finish your degree or are you planing to complete it at UNISA ? I found that they would not let me do this.... they are very particular about what courses you are allowed to transfer. Might not be worth your while.

Both universities wanted me to do a minimum of 2 years with them to complete the degree and UJ wouldn't let me finish my modules at UNISA (I had one year left)

True.. but R100 could have gone for food, paying debts, kids stuff, school stuff.
