UK couple robbed outside their hotel

Blair said they had not made reservations and on their arrival at about 8pm had gone to the Protea Hotel and parked their car in front of the hotel.

Well they were rather stupid then ... probably left the car unlocked as well.

Hmmm, I see. One has to make reservations to make sure you don't get robbed. I wonder if that's in the Lonely Planet. Maybe we need to let them know?

Ok . . reservations = safety and security. I'll keep that in mind. In fact I've just made dinner reservations for Friday so I should be immune from crime until then right? :)

Only in Africa. Remember in the last incident it was hinted that You must not leave the hotel with valuables like cell phones, watches, money, bank cards, etc. and preplan the daily trips and go only to specific destinations, do not walk on the beach-front during or after sunset, that was before the woman was raped in bright daylight in the pools. Now you cannot even park in front of the hotel as we blame the fact that they did not have reservations? Only in Africa or for now it seems Southern Africa. Well done boys, keep it up. The international exposure is doing us good!

So froggy tourist robberies only happen here in South Africa ??? :).

Wow ... you are so bright ... a simple google search will point out it happens all over the world but yet it warrents a mention on myadsl ... you sometimes have to wonder about the agenda's of the people around here to wallow in self loathing and pity.

Perhaps FNB can be persuaded to donate free airplane tickets ;).

Given the fact that our criminals love killing for fun they were very lucky and this is not really news worthy

Crime of opportunity, and they are both healthy and fine, so whats the point of the article, happens all the time as previously posted, and not only in S.A.
Take a walk through Rome, and if you arent pickpocketed as a tourist, you will be fairly lucky.

I do not think you understand the severity of the problem tibby. This is a real issue. I think the simple agenda of people as you so nicely put it... is to be safe.

Perhaps a concept you need to think on a little.

As I was writing this post, I heard gunshots... again.

Only in Africa.
No - regrettably it is a problem in many places and not just Africa. Fortunately SA is under the spotlight so there is a better chance that something will be done about it.

Agreed I've had my rental car broken into in Rome, my credit card skimmed in Las Vegas and wallet stolen in Tijuana Mexico.. the point though is in none of these gun was stuck in my face and my life was never at risk

No-one attacked these two either. Yes, there are many violent crimes against tourists in this country, but rather argue that point in a thread on one of those.
