UK ADSL exchange penetration reaches 80 percent
10 Sep 2003
BT Wholesale has reported that 80 percent of U.K. homes are now connected to an ADSL broadband-enabled exchange.
The extended reach programme, which will go live on 24 September, will accommodate people who have the connection but are too far from the exchange to get broadband.
The increased range will mean that 600,000 homes are covered, and that 97 percent of people connected will be within range.
"Families, schools and businesses alike are enjoying the benefits of always-on, high-speed surfing," said BT Wholesale chief executive Paul Reynolds. "This month we will have as many people connected to exchanges offering broadband as can switch on their gas cooker to make the supper," he added.
