Hi everyone.

I've got a UK phone that came with a UK plug. The 3 pin UK plug is detachable from the cable that runs to the phone.

Would I be able to use the UK wire with a normal SA USB end? Anyone know if the voltage or anything would be a problem?

You can get an adapter from various places, including builders warehouse. Simply plug the UK plug into that.

If it's using USB though it should be compatible with an SA USB adapter. Just check the output details on the adapter to be sure.

Voltage details would be on the charger itself.. you should be concerned with the rated input voltage and it should be rated for 220 - 240 volts to work in SA..

If you see input for 220 - 240 volts, you are fine..

Still unsure, attach a pic here for us to peruse l, showing the spec..

Thanks guys. Pic attached.

Input AC is 100 to 240 volts.
50 to 60 Hz.

Output DC 5V - 3A / 9V - 2A / 12V - 1.5A

Output voltage of a USB plug is normally only 5v. Not sure what 9v or 12v would do to a USB device that needs 5v.

Thanks guys.

From what I can gather, 5V is one of the options. 9V and 12V too.

Or am I misunderstanding?

It's a Nokia from the UK - if that helps anyone figure it out.

5V is the standard USB voltage - the 9V and 12V options are used for different quick charge technologies. All you need to do is get an adapter which converts the UK pin plug to an SA pin plug - most luggage or electronic stores have them - I saw one last week @ Spar too. If you go with a regular USB charger you will lose the quick charge capability of the device the charger is for.

Thanks. The quick charge thing isn't really important to me. I'm more after convenience.

I already got a UK to Euro 2 pin plug adapter, but it's just bulky to use so I prefer a normal SA plug on the end if it can work.

Plug the USB side of the cable into anything in your house where it fits and the micro side into the phone. There's a reason why it's called UNIVERSAL serial bus.

If you're not worried about quick charge, even better because (apart from quick chargers), everything (even adapters) will output 5v, the currents might differ though, and that only determines how long it will take to fully charge
