UK spouse visa

Slough has everything you need.

Low cost housing, great employment opportunities, the great outdoors....

Sarcasm aside, no, you can apply immediately. That said, why not ask at the actual experts in UK immigration on their superb (well, ok, "superb for a govt.) website

They are surprisingly helpful and you'll get info that is actually useful compared to asking on an SA board.

I started a similar thread a while ago. My Wife is British.

You don't need to be settled in the UK at the time of application. Your partner can apply while you, the UK partner, is outside if the country provided you have an employment offer within the UK starting within six months that meets the minimum income requirements or you have sufficient cash if using the cash savings option without employment.

If you are self employed, you will need to show proof in income for the last year prior to application.

We decided that my wife will go over on her own. She's been there 10 months already. I've still got some stuff to sort out and hopefully join her in June this year.

Oh. And anyone from the UK know where the greenest hills, lowest cost housing and least stress is?
I can work from anywhere... Needn't be England. I want a bit of remote in my life.... Without resorting to Shetland lol.

I’ve always loved Edinburgh and surrounds (prices decrease steeply as you head out from Edinburgh center, which is already very much cheaper than London). It’s also only 4 hours to London by train.

I visited a friend in Norwich last year and spent a few days there. Also a great little area (walk-only city center), very quant/charming, gin bars, great restaurants, etc., and less than 2 hours from London.

The pace in both of the above felt super relaxed.

Did you consider Republic of Ireland? The CTA is not going anywhere even after Brexit. As a brit, you can live and work there. SA Citizens don't need a visa. There might be some changes to bringing your non UK spouse to Ireland but it should be cheaper than the UK spouse visa. I think the UK spouse visa will set me back over R50k including the NHS surcharge. And again in 2.5 years for renewal. If you can get your wife into Republic of Ireland, she can get an Irish passport in 5 years which will open up both the UK and EU.
