Hi all,

1st post from me so excuse my ignorance if I'm asking a stupid question...

I have a uk supplied roku express, if I take to capetown I u Der stand I have to somehow get the router to act as a VPN to allow access to UK channels etc , is that correct and if so is it do able ??

Thanks in advance,
stuart

You can also use a dns proxy

yes get a VPN...

If it's a new, unregistered Roku you're going to want both. You'll use a VPN to set up the UK Roku account, assuming you're going to want UK channels (like BBC iPlayer, ITv, and channels 4 & 5) because you can only get those from the UK store. That you'll do from your laptop.

To watch those channels you can use a DNS service.

Some DNS services include a free VPN so look for one of those.

I'll let these guys explain it...

What is the difference between a Smart DNS service and a VPN?

A Smart DNS service only re-routes SOME of your Internet connections via overseas servers. A VPN re-routes ALL of your Internet traffic via an overseas server. Also, Smart DNS provides no encrption or privacy, whereas a VPN does (all traffic between your device and the VPN server is encrypted). Getflix provides a Smart DNS service, but each active account also comes with a free, optional Full VPN as well!

Basically you only need the VPN to set up the UK Roku account alternatively... if you have a mate in the UK they could probably do that part for you.

Then you us the smart DNS to route only the traffic specific to the service you want to use - be it Netflix, BBC, iTV...
