So planning trip to Portugal later this year BA seems to have some of the best prices and timing on the flights 15h vs 20-30h >_<

They do however seem to need that STUPID DATV anyone apply for one lately and if so how long did it take?

Have you checked the prices on TAAG? They fly CPT-LIS, with a short layover in LAD.

That would negate the need for UK visa.

Spot on and TAAG is also an option but I guess as long as people havent had issues with them, I did pose the question before and seemed mixed reviews I guess.

Also it would be from JHB not CPT

Yeah, unfortunately those dates that you're looking for are mega peak times for summer travel to Europe.
unfortunately the dates arent flexible as its joined to my wife's European congress for the year, last year was Serbia. Next year Sardinia.

Trying to figure out the best time to buy the tickets too, this might just be waay to far out maybe wait another month or two?

The perfect combo here is now 6k more :(

I flew Cape Town - Lisbon Porto - Cape Town with TAAG in 2017. The flights were fine, my screen did not work on one of the legs but that didn't bother me. Luanda Airport is kak but we had lounge access so that was not a problem.

Flights are very expensive in general compared to early last year.

I am going to Thailand in April and paid double than what we usually pay. We are also looking at Europe in September and it is already expensive.

We’re going to the UK in July. We normally go once a year or so. This time round it is so much more expensive.

Spoke to someone yesterday evening flew a few times with TAAG seems I might do that - ill book via flight by investec then I have an "agent" to deal with the airline and also have insurance. Considering its 5-8 hours quicker overall might just be worth it. I guess ill leave the review if this all pans out :)

One of my staff flies TAAG he’s from Angola and also the family side business (travel) books people on it and its been fine, hasn’t had an issue with them. I mean don’t expect Qatar level of airplane quality but otherwise nothing wrong with them.

Of course if you’re collecting Oneworld/AVIOS then BA might be worth it despite the extra red tape..

Thanks!

Not collecting avios etc at the moment I get significant points from Investec booking through them so that makes up for that. Not expecting anything spectacular or similar. I flew to Congo B via Kenya so I have done African airlines before I'm not expecting much but if I can save a significant amount worth it.
