UK Visa English test

Hey guys

So my wife and I are planning a stint in the UK. I have some good career oportunities over there that I just cant pass up. We are looking into the Settlement Visa (spousal visa) and its requirements. We pretty much have everything required, but she is worried about the english test right now.
I have told her not to worry about the test. They seem to just be wanting to make sure that you can communicate in English and will cope with the transition into UK society.

I have tried a google search to get some info on what types of things are in the test. No luck though. Does anyone have any first or second hand knowledge of it? Maybe a family member or friend has gone through it and has told you what was involved?

I have told her not to stress, she is english speaking, went through matric level english and passed etc... And I really doubt that the test will grill you on what a noun is, or all the uses of adjectives and verbs etc...

But logical guesses are still simply guesses. Anyone have any more info that might help settle her fears?
 
Your wife is worried about nothing. But if I were you I'd make her "cram" for the test anyway :p (2 cousins over there, it's nothing to worry about)

Ye I suspected as much, she is just the worrying type. Likes to prepare for things and feels a little stressed when she doesn't know the criteria of what she must prepare for.

Awesomw test. I know its not much but I guess that these are exactly the type of questions that she will be asked. Very nice find.

Yes English is her Mother tongue. Her grammar can sometimes be a little terrible, and her range of english words could be a little larger. But its not like she speaks like a 6 year old or something. I am just used to using big words because of my family, whereas her family uses a little more slang or colloquial speach. So from my level, judging her, I find there is quite a lot that can be improved. But for an average English speaking person its good.
 
Research matric comprehension papers from 10 yrs ago & let her have a go at them...

(just a suggestion)

should help her expand on her english vocab....
 
also just got my UK visa, I understand that the UK needs to make sure you can communicate in English if you plan to work or study over there.

What I find funny is if you have an EU passport and wish to work in the UK, no English test is required. What really got annoying was phoning BE Unlimited and the opperator was a poor woman who could bearly speak English who's accent was clearly polish. Bad part on BE help your staff!

But good luck for the test, I am sure your wife will be fine :)
 
Not sure what test it is really. They are not very forthcoming with any info whatsoever. I am confident she will do fine though. I think the suggestion of getting hold of old comprehension papers will help a lot. Just as a few exercises before she takes the test. Even if it doesn't help her directly, doing some kind of prep will at least help to set her mind at ease. That is all I want really.
 
Nothing to worry about - they only want to make sure you can speak English. If you can spell dog and cat then you have nothing to worry about :)
