Thinking of getting a ultrabook for travelling purposes.

Currently taking my gaming laptop (15.6inch) with me when travelling...but that thing is a mission to schlepp around (Bulky & heavy AF). Also carrying work laptop so its a little bit too much.

Can probably get a demo Lenovo x250 for 7k...which seems ideal...except for the <HD screen res. Any other ideas?

Alternatively what are the chances of a powerful gaming laptop that is light for like 30k-ish? i.e. If I can I'll just upgrade my 2 year old gaming laptop (15 inch) instead of buying 2x devices.

Thoughts? Has to be lappies...no desktops :(

It's a bit over your budget of R30 000 but what about a Dell XPS 15?

Starting at weight: 1.78kg (3.9 lbs)3 with 56Whr battery, SSD and non-touch display; 2kg (4.4 lbs)3 with 84Whr battery, SSD and touch display

Well I was just spitballing the budget number to give you guys a reference point. Shooting more for bang per buck than an absolute number to be honest.

Bit concerned about the 960m in that thing though...those were available already 2 years ago when I bought my existing gaming laptop (860m). Existing lappy is fine bulk aside so would need bit more of an upgrade than that to justify the spend.

I use an Acer Aspire S7 392
Thats kinda the class I'd be looking at for mobile.

Razer blade? 14" fhd gtx1060 6gb ips matte display. no idea about price though.

Interesting development. Found a 17 inch Razer blade for 6.5k...2015 edition 960M with dual SSD + HDD. Impossibly good deal so if it checks out I might just upgrade now regardless of initial thinking in OP.

I bought my wife a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 12 for her studies, and it's a real trooper. i7, 12.5 inch full HD touch display, 8gb ram, 1.58kg, epic battery life, converts to a tablet when needed.

Build quality is high, and I was able to pick it up from a small cash converters (less than a year old with warranty) for R3500.

Even at R10000 second hand it's a bargain.

What do you guys think of this? 10k zenbook?

ASUS UX301LA-C4154T 13.3-Inch Zenbook Notebook (Black) - (Intel i5-5200U, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Intel HD 4000 Graphics, Windows 10)

Jealous. Thats an absolute steal.

Sounds extremely stolen to me.

Ended up getting a ASUS Transformer T100HA

Pretty low spec but very cheap (~3k) and has a full Win 10 environment. Also added a 128gb SD card so 200gig storage in total.

Haven't received it yet, but sounds very promising (it can play stuff like CSGO at a stretch) and charges off USB so future 8 hour flights will be mega civilisation/torchlight/AoE gaming sessions :D

Thats assuming I get a unit without manufacturing defects I think it'll be 100s.

please let me know how it works out. Its only got 2gb of ram, I have a lot of browser windows open and apparently it struggles with those. Also where did you get it at that price?

Yeah will do. Its a bit of a gamble since they seem to be quite prone to being faulty....but don't see anything comparable (8th gen intel) at similar pricing. Got it off amazon @ special.

Lenovo Carbon Fibre X1 (though you're already sorted).

Was looking for a slim leather 14" bag. Saw the tag of almost R4k, walked away.

Yeah, firefox with 8 tabs = 1.7GB ram usage at the moment...
