One of my clients applied for ADSL on Monday afternoon. Told her it will be a six week waiting period. Yesterday morning (Tuesday), she get's a call from a techie - they'll be installing her line that afternoon. And they did! We go there this morning, pop in the Netgear modem, and what-do-you-know - line is working 100%!!

WTF. That's a 24-hour turnaround time!! :eek:

Edit: This is the Brackenfell Industria, Northern Suburbs, Cape Town area.

Plessey = private contractors?

Dunno - will ask if it was a Telkom bakkie that rocked up there.

They must have plenty of ports available on that exchange -- what is the first 3 digits of the telephone number ???.

021 981 xxxx

Another client of mine in Boston Bellville was also helped within 3-4 days... don't know what's going on! :D

I applied the monday, they came and installed it on the saturday (CT, bellville too)

Well, I applied for a phone line, waited 5 months for that. When that was done I applied for ADSL self install. 3 days later, Telkom phones, e-mails me the self install guide, and tells me to connect the router, and will be live in 5 days. Thats next Tuesday. Keeping fingers crossed!

Yes, quite a few people I know who have had a fast install have reported that the Techies were from Plessey.

Well now ICASA is forcing Telkom (and the SNO) to maintian a minimum of a 30 day turn around, when the new regulations come into play.
