How long have we been told that Cape Town is the most unequal city in the country.

Well, we aren't.

Three South African cities have been damned by the UN as being the most unequal in the world in terms of resources available to their inhabitants.

The cities are Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, on the East Rand, and East London's Buffalo City.

They were named and shamed in UN Habitat's State of the World Cities 2010-2011: Bridging the Urban Divide as having the greatest divide between the haves and have-nots compared to cities in 108 other countries surveyed.

The measure used to classify the cities was the Gini index, the most widely used measure of inequality.

A zero value implies perfect equality with resources distributed proportionately among all households, whereas a score of 1 signals absolute inequality.

"The study does not reveal anything new to us," Buffalo City municipal spokesman Samkelo Ngwenya said.

"It is the mammoth task of the current government to collectively bridge the gap that exists between our societies.

"It is a setback that has been inherited by the decades attached to the legacy of apartheid [and] it is a reality that is confronting us today.

Cape Town listed 9th - ahead of 8 other areas in SA, all of them ANC-led.

Suck on that one Tony Two-face.

PS: If Buffalo City can blame apartheid why can Cape Town not ?

Rubbish it's whiteys fault. We have lacked empathy and failed to dish out enough hand outs.

WHY DID THEY RELEASE THIS REPORT TODAY OUT OF ALL???!!! A week before would have been more ideal...

So we have a report now!!!!

Ya zuma you see this!!!! in your face!!!!!!

We have our reports!!!!!!! zim also had reports and still has reports so don't worry our future is bright, i am sure these reports actually mean something.

Come on guys we need to feel more white guilt here. If we felt more white guilt maybe things would be okay.

No need for me to look at the report. I step outside my crib and I can easily the 'invisible' line between the poor and the rich. It's pathetic but this IS the results of apartheid and racism. It's nothing new and we ALL KNOW IT.

Yup, and the ANC is in no hurry to erase it. I mean, if they actually spent money on the poor, they wouldnt be able to afford Breitling watches and Maybach's. Can you imagine our beloved leaders driving around in a Toyota? Can you? Disgusting.

I for one am glad that the ANC sees fit to emulate the old apartheid government as close as possible. Secrecy, brutal police, corruption, its like the good old days except less terrorism.

funny enough your in Cape Town(DA managed) and much higher up on the list. Afaik, the DA members don't splash out on expensive cars like the ANC members here in Gauteng. Considering that the average vehicle purchased by ANC members in GP costs R500k + can you imagine the amount of homes that could have been build with that money. Almost forgot to mention the ANC members that are staying in 5-star hotels whilst their official homes are being upgraded. The ANC proudly wasting a lot of money, but idiots will still vote for the ANC.

FYI, glad to see the DA results are positive thus far. The DA's campaign focussed on their track record unlike the ANC that focussed solely on race, but some people still believe the DA is the racist party
