Unable to Activate BIS (Vodacom)

I am using Vodacom Prepaid .

When I dial *111#, select Bundle Purchases, I don't have the Blackberry Service option available.

I sms'd BlackBerry to 100 and the service has not been activated, and the money was not deducted from my account.

Can someone please assist, the guys at Broadboad Support from Vodacom was not helpful at all.

You maybe on contract
 
Thanks guys for the help. I called vodacom customer care, the number is on contract with Fero Mobile, apparently getting R29 free p/m. :mad::twisted:

If the line is on cotnract then the BIS needs to be set as a Bolt-On, it cannot be purchased via the *111# menu unless its a purely pre-paid line.
 
Just googled Fero Mobile
Very interesting....free airtime every month....no catch...
but the Question is why???

Money, plain and simple. If i am not mistaken vodacom is the only ISP that allows prepaid BIS. Correct me if i am wrong.
They do not have to allow pre-paid access to BIS and most countries do not allow it, no contract no BIS.
Its the same reason topup users cant transfer allocated airtime.

You basically signed your sim card over to fero, legally they now own it. Not something i would consider a good idea.

The subscriber acknowledges that they have been subscribed to the Ferocat subscription service and do not require a welcome message.
In the event that the subscriber de-subscribes from the Ferocat subscription service, Ferocat has the right to cancel the contract. A cancellation fee of R600.00 is payable by you should you cancel the contract either via opting out of the FeroMobile subscription service or requesting deactivation prior to the end of your 24 month contract.

As they now legally have your sim card in essentially a contract they have to active BIS for you or you have to wait the remainder of the 2 years before you revert to prepaid to do so yourself or pay the R600 cancellation fee. Basically what this means is you now on a Blackbbery and cannot get BIS without a long wait or a pretty expense.

But what is stopping some one from buying a new Sim and using it only for the free airtime?
Would work well for the old people who just need phones for emergency purposes

Never said he could not buy a new sim, but how many people want to do that.

Thats the problem in itself, its Free, whats the catch???
In this case its a big 1, you get free airtime but loose ownership of your own phone number. If he phones vodacom for anything, fero mobile will have to approve it, he cannot add or remove any service from his line himself.

Nothings ever free, the very first thing i checked was the T&C and based on that i would not sign away my rites to my own phone number for a measly R29.

This free airtime is going to work out very expensive for you as if you wish to keep your number and get bis you will need to cancel with fero and pay R600, or you will have to loose your number.

As a businessmen i would of expected you to pay much more attention to the terms, its not like they even hidden or in fine print, even if you not using BIS, why would you choose to sign over all rites to your own phone number?

You do not get what i was trying to say....
What i was trying to say is just buy a prepaid sim....no worries about signing away your number as it is not important.
It will be used just for the R29
No need to cancel it as it is just a backup Sim

I did read the Terms and conditions but it would be irrelevant to anyone using it just as an emergency backup sim
 
He already has an active sim he wants to use, he wants to add bis onto it but can't because he already signed his sim over to fero, so a second sim would mean for bis he would need to use that in his blackberry and then probably walk around with a second phone with the fero sim in it so that all his friends who already know his number can call him or he would have to change his number to the new sim if he only wants to use 1 phone and keep in touch with everone who has his number.

Fine, but still look @ the terms, it says your required to make use of the subscription service, charges for will be deducted from your airtime, but no mention of the cost of the service.

What if the service costs say R40 per month, if so then in accordance with the terms, if your unable to pay for the service you can no longer use it. If your not using the service then you breach the terms and they can therfor cancel the contract and hold you liable for that R600. Should you refuse to pay they can easily send a collection agency or lawyer after you, at which point you would have to pay with added legal costs or face prosecution.

Is R29 airtime really worth the risk of binding yourself to such a risk for a full 24 months?

Fine its unlikely that the sub exceeds the allocation, but personally I would not risk it especially considering the application form requires my ID number.

Bleh... So I can't do this with the 9300 we just got for my wife's upgrade on topup315? If so, I guess we'll just have to fork for extra expense on top.
 
Nope, on contract, even topup most services are extra, I think only data bundles can be bought from the airtime. Bis, sms/mms bundles need to be added onto the account.

Myself and most of my friends went topup 315, just add on the bis and that your total monthly expense hey...
 
Thanks. Pity that... Every few months the contract sits with a +R600 balance, would have been nice to put the Rand value to some use.
 
Best thing to do then is buy a data bundle and download something possibly useful off the net, that or calling people for the hell of it...
