Hello,

I just got set up with a static IP via Cool Ideas.

I went into my router, changed my connection type to Static and added the:

- IP
- Subnet
- GW
- DNS1
- DBS2

Still no internet. Even done a reset on ONT and Router and nothing.

I would call customer services, but they are now close.

Anybody know if I’ve done something wrong?

Yes, you probably don’t need to setup anything on your side, they’ll allocate the IP to you dynamically.

Try putting it all back on Auto.

I cannot see any auto options. There’s only:

Static
Dynamic
PPPoE
L2TP
PPTP

If I choose Static IP, I have to manually add everything in.

Dynamic = Auto.

Static IP in this context just means you get the same IP over and over again based on your username (presumably).

It’s still a Dynamic/Automatic IP in every other sense, it’s just reserved.

Thank you! I did set it to Dynamic/auto, but still no internet.

Hi, which FNO/fibre provider? Of it was PPP then go back to that and the IP won't change.

Hello,

I’m with VUMA. It was originally set to Dynamic IP, but it went offline the moment I got my details for my static IP.

It’s still set to dynamic IP now with no internet connection.

I have a reference number if you would like to look into that.

Then Dynamic or Auto should technically work, may be a line down. What lights are on your CPE?

Perhaps your line need to be reactivated. Plug laptop directly into ONT and go to your ISP's activation page on the internet.

That's how it works with the Vuma ISP I'm with. Change router, activate. Reset same router, activate. Etc.

Nah shouldn't have to do that.

@PBCool - Managed to get sorted (kinda).

There was a problem with my IP address, so they changed it.

Things started working immediately and then my line went down again.

For some reason, the only way I can get my line running again is if I switch from choosing the dynamic option to selecting Static IP and then filling in the details manually.

Like I mentioned though, it worked initially once they changed my IP address and then it randomly stopped. I'm not sure why

You cant run on both Dynamic and Static, it's one or the other.

Dynamic meaning to automatically select the IP address on my router.

So I should have it set to static on my router and manually add in my IP address?
Yeap that's how static typically works on Vumatel.
