Sorry for my ignorance but I don’t have ADSL myself and is house sitting for someone who does have it so I’ve connected my PC to it but is unable to get into lots of sites I usually visit with my dial-up connection at home. Why is it? If I use the ADSL connection for dial-up (I realize it will be slower) will it make a difference in getting into those sites and does Telkom charge per minute if I would use it for dial-up or is it also included in the standard monthly charge?

Unable to get into many websites

1. There is no reason that you shouldn't be able to get into sites on ADSL... Unless the PC that you are using as a gateway has some filtering software installed...What kind of sites exactly?
2. If you use the line for dialup, you will need to ensure that you use a POTS filter on the line. It will be slower, and I can't see it being worthwhile. Also, if you are using the same PC, and it has filtering software installed, you still won't be able to access those sites.
3. Telkom will charge for all dialup calls as normal voice calls (exorbitantly per minute).

2. What sites can you see? give URL.
3. What sites exactly can you NOT see? give URL.
It could be that you are capped (but then you'd likely see nothing). If so, it would be cheaper to buy a new ADSL account than to use dial up.

Well if you simply plug in your modem in a phoneline that has adsl enabled, as mentioned, you will have to use a fillter, and also it would be like normal dail up using a normal line! you will be running up a tel bill!

Yes, it seems to be a proxy issue. I tried using some free oversees proxy servers and it works, I can get into those sites I couldn’t get into before but still not all and it is extremely slow, even slower than dial-up. I downloaded and installed ProxyWay but it doesn’t seem to work as far as getting into all sites go. Anyone out there who can help with some positive advise on how to solve it?
