Unable to minimize game.

Playing Dead Island Riptide one cannot manually save and at times you play for an hour before reaching a checkpoint.
I will quit the game on reaching a checkpoint but on resuming I am positioned far from the checkpoint position, sometimes
in the middle of a group of zombies.
I want to be able to minimize the game and be able to resume the following day.
I have tried ALT/TAB - CTRL/ESC - and the windows key. None of these options minimizes the game.
Can someone please help.

Alt enter or alt esc if I'm not mistaken.

Alt-F4 will minimize it, for good

Some games are like that, I think dead island was one of them.

Have you tried CTRL + ALT + DEL?

In the video game graphics option, is there not an option to run it in "Windowed Borderless" mode instead of full screen?

Some games can be very stubborn in this regard.
Ctrl+Alt+Del>Select Task Manager>Keep it open.

You should be able to Alt+Tab (with ease) now. If you're unlucky, the game will freeze and crash because of the "forced" minimisation.

OK. I have tried all the suggestions but not Hagan's yet.(jyst read his post now)
Nothing worked.
I launched the game at a safe checkpoint where I am inside our base camp.
On pressing ALT + F4 the game literally did what Etienne said "minimize it for good"
I had to start the game again but this time, instead of starting at my safe base I
found myself miles away and had to run like a headless chicken past the zombies
trying to find my way back.

Alt+F4 is force close. (insert facepalm smiley)
Alt-Enter will swap between fullscreen and border (for most console ported games).
Having any application open in the background will allow you to alt-tab.

EDIT: Forgot to add, Win+D to go to desktop.

Some games within some platforms can be very stubborn. Like other have asked and stated try running it in Borderless Windowed mode , if available.

Yes. It works on Riptide. Now it will be permanently minimized after playing. I'm tired of leaving the game at a checkpoint only to find my vehicle gone on resuming the game or being placed far from the checkpoint position.
