A few months ago i self installed my baby pvr using splitter into the back of the pvr.i live in a complex and the red tape is really a problem with HD dish installation. It worked fine vertical and horizontal channel recordings. Now for the past two weeks i can only record the channel that i am watchin save for a few other such as BBC Discovery etc.
Does anyone know if DSTV has changed channells around or they have gotten wind of some of us who decided to bypass the installations that can cost R2000 or more. But in my complex BodyCorp has banned individual installation. We have to use the communal DSTV ports. But they been deciding for over a year now.
By the way all my channels are showing even the HD using the splitter, its only the recording thats a problem suddenly.

I was having similar problems as you are experience. I too stay in a complex with a communal dish and dstv customer support told me I can get a splitter with the body corps permission. They never told me that my signal would be split in two and would not be so great. I ended up not being able to watch certain channels as they were choppy and recording never worked. What I did to sort out the problem was this.

1. I got a LNB splitter that actually boosts the signal. I bought it at Zakspeed in Cape Town. The unit with the plug cost around R245.

2. Then called dstv to deactivate my hd pvr smart card so that I can watch hd, record one channel and watch another at the same time (that is what I said on the phone).

And all of a sudden everythig worked. Now when I go to information central and then tuner status (or something to that effect), both tuners have 98% signal strength and 100% signal quality (because of the splitter which boosts the signal) and can record and watch another channel without any problems.
