Unauthorized debit orders

I once had some unauthorised debit orders appear on my cheque account. I managed to get hold of the guys who did it and went to their offices and had a nice little chat with them about theft and breaking legs, etc. Never happened again after that.

So the company actually paid my money back this time (the R89). FNB decided they were entitled to a R30 service fee because the company did a cash deposit (something I have no control over):

Change your bank..... R30 service fee on a deposit of R89.00..... enough said..

I'm gonna take this further with the banking ombudsman, and although I don't expect the system to change, I think it's necessary to make a point of pointing out the flaws every now & then. If this is a common scenario and FNB make money from every such event, I don't really see how it's any different from a company employee skimming 0.001 cents from every transaction. FNB just find themselves in the position of being favorably 'bound' by rules, regulations and existing framework.

But it's not a big surprise that they sit on their hands regarding this. They profit - I lose.

Frustrating.
