WHAT THAA!
Pinch me.

OK, I've just connected with eMule now, and Ive been downloading at a running average of 11+kB/s for the last 15 minutes.. And I can even open a webpage or two during this.

Whats wrong with the network?, Sentech could not have bought more bandwidth, right?

I hope someone else can see this, otherwise I know I totally lost it.

I seem to be browsing a little faster than normal. Emule is running at the normal 4kb/s though so i have no luck there.

Fluke as usual, I'm enjoying it while it lasts though! I will try passing the buck if i can find it!

They've definately done something. I have been experiencing very good speeds since they performed tower maintenence on the Woodmead tower. Torrent going at about 25k/sec (never been able to torrent at that speed before) and I still can browse multiple firefox windows at once with no noticeable slowdown.

So that is where my bandwidth is going - give it back you hog you! ;)

I wish they would optimise Randburg, speeds have been slowly but surely decreasing since the beginning of the year. I monitor me speeds on a three-hourly basis using tcpiq and the graph ain't pretty.

Finders keepers! ;)

Speaking of bandwidth hogs... I see iBust, sorry, iBurst is having serious problems with "hogs". Riiiight... yet more incompetence in our country.

Hello - just reporting in that speed over FTP appears to be about 8 to 11kB/s on a 128kbps connection and has been fairly stable for a few hours. I won't mention my tower, just in case the special people at Sentech read this and decide to "fix" the product.

Strange things here too, Donovan. Same wget as previous. Wonder it's some of that intl bandwidth distribution they promised :D

Urm, it seems as if they might have lengthened the "burst" time, to a couple of minutes now... BUT, (always the but) now you can see the network pulling strain during those first minutes, and that would probably explain why the speed is so jumpy before it settles on 5kB again.

Luke, you will have to download a bigger file now to test it! Try a 3.5Meg file. Although I get 5kb before I reach 1Meg now... {scratch head}

I guess it is a good thing that the network shows a little strain, (being optimist) - at least we get all the available bandwidth.. Now we should complain about that contention ratio again.. But whats the use?

Donovan - Couple of hours...???... Hmmmm... shrug. Unless! I got the 5kB on http, i should check out ftp.. Mmm, nope, 5kB on ftp after a minute or two.
Or, Donovan, could your files have been cached on the proxy?

OR! Maybe the amount of time the "burst" continues, depends on the network traffic at sentech? My tcpiq speed logs have been showing random slowdowns during [probably] busy hours - maybe the 5kB kicks in after a few seconds or immediately then?

It seems to vary. I do occasionally get (by some miracle) extended periods of WHAT I PAID FOR - ie, 128kb per second. It has been better over the last couple months.
